Brandon Estes

Brandon joined the Marine Corps in the fall of 2002 and received his basic training at MCRD, San Diego; his combat training at Camp Pendleton; and his military police training at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. His MOS was Military Police, and he was assigned to the MWSS 373. He served on the Marine 1 Presidential Helicopter Detail in Washington, DC before joining an EOD Security Platoon at Miramar, California and deploying to Fallujah, Iraq. Returning from Iraq he was assigned to the training cadre at Miramar. He was then reassigned to the MWSS 374 at Twenty Nine Palms, California before deploying with another EOD Security Platoon to Fallujah and Ramadi, Iraq. He received his Honorable Discharge in the fall of 2006. Brandon began attending CrossPoint Community Church in 1984. He and his wife, Chantel, are both pursuing degrees in the medical field and work in Modesto.

 
 

Mick LaBarbera

Micky joined the Air Force in November of 1995 and received his basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. His MOS was Security Police and for two years he provided missile field security for Minuteman III nuclear missiles at Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota. He was transferred to FE Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming where he provided security at the weapons storage area. Later he was deployed to Prince Sultan Air Base in Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia for Operation Southern Watch in support of the southern "No Fly Zone" of Iraq. He received his Honorable Discharge in November of 1999. Micky began attending CrossPoint Community Church in 1977. He and his wife, Laura, have two children and both work in Modesto.

   

Tom LaBarbera

Tom was drafted into the Army in March of 1969 and received his basic and advanced training at Fort Lewis, Washington. His MOS was Light Weapons Infantry, and he served in Vietnam, August 1969 through August 1970 with the 198th Light Infantry Brigade of the Americal Division. His stateside assignment was at Fort Lewis, Washington where he served in the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Tom separated from active duty in March of 1971 but remained in the inactive reserves until receiving his Honorable Discharge in March of 1975. Tom began attending CrossPoint Community Church in 1967. He and his wife, Dianne, have three adult children and both work in Modesto.

   

Ray Newman

Ray received his basic training at Fort Ord and his advanced training at Fort Belvoir, VA. From there he did two tours in Korea. The first as Cadre at the I Corps NCO Academy and the second in Pusan with the 42nd EUD where he worked with the Korean Government returning property that had been taken during the war. Following that assignment he spent three years with 6th Army Headquarters at Presidio of San Francisco. From there he went to the 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized) where he was assigned to the Division Engineer Section, 7th Engineer Bn. His next assignment was with the Signal Corps on a mountain top outside of Ankara, where he spent three years supporting the detachment with engineer functions. Ray separated from active duty in 1965 and became First Sergeant of the 663 Engineer Co. (Topo) (Corps) receiving his Honorable Discharge and retiring in 1979. Ray began attending CrossPoint Community Church in 1975. He and his wife, Laura, have five adult children, are retired and live in Modesto.

   

Lenny Zeer

Lenny was drafted into the Army in January of 1967 and received his basic and advanced training at Fort Ord, California. His MOS was High Speed Radio Operator. He went through jump school at Fort Benning, Georgia and transferred with the 82nd Airborne to Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he completed Special Forces training at Smoke Bomb Hill. He was deployed with the 5th Special Forces to Da Nang, Vietnam as a Communication Sergeant – A Team. He processed out of the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington in March of 1969 but remained in the inactive reserves until receiving his Honorable Discharge in January of 1975. Lenny began attending CrossPoint Community Church in 1998. He and his wife, Debi, have been married for 12 years and have three adult children and six grandchildren.

   

Matt Schrader

Matt is the only member of the team who has not served in the military. He began attending CrossPoint Community Church in 1977 and has worked on staff since 1997. His position at the church allows him to provide resources and administrative support to the team as they minister to and encourage vets of all ages. He and his wife, Kim, have been married for 15 years.
